ODE TO JENNIVEE’S BAKERY

11/29/2018

                    by H. Melt

“[Owner Jenne] Vailoces’ best friend, Dakota, died by suicide a few years ago...Dakota always encouraged her to pursue her bakery dreams, so she named Jennivee’s after the nickname he called her.” –Molly Sprayregen, Out Magazine

The only trans owned
business in chicago
is a bakery

between belmont
& addison we gather
after a late night out

to indulge in a slice
of purple velvet or
mango cream cake

glass windows
allow everyone
to see inside

how sweet it is
to open a door
without fear

to celebrate
another day
staying alive.
